    Comparison Guide

    HeadStart Docs and InfoTrack

Two different tools for two different parts of the compliance obligation. Here is what each does and whether you need one or both.

Last updated: 16 June 2026Comparison Guide

    Key takeaway

These are not competing products. They solve different parts of the compliance obligation.

InfoTrack's AML/CTF Compliance Centre is a screening and CDD tool: identity verification, PEP/Sanctions/Adverse Media screening and risk profiling, integrated into practice management software like LEAP and Smokeball (sister companies under ATI Group). It also includes guided compliance workflows, training modules and AUSTRAC reporting tools. Confirm the full scope of program documentation features directly with InfoTrack.

HeadStart Docs provides program documentation and an AML portal: sector-specific program documentation, a free AML portal with CDD, screening, transaction monitoring, reporting and an immutable audit log.

    Different tools, different jobs

Under Tranche 2, AUSTRAC requires two things from every reporting entity:

    1. An AML/CTF program — documented governance, risk assessments, policies and procedures designed for your business and sector.
    2. Operational compliance — actually performing CDD, screening, monitoring and reporting on an ongoing basis.

InfoTrack focuses primarily on the operational side (screening, CDD, verification) with guided compliance workflows. HeadStart focuses on the program documentation side (policies, risk assessments, governance) and also provides an operational portal. The scope of each product continues to evolve — confirm current features directly with each provider.

Important: Screening and CDD tools are one part of your compliance obligation. You also need documented policies, risk assessments and a governance framework. Some providers include program documentation features; others focus on operational tools. Check what each provider includes and ensure you have both layers covered.

    About InfoTrack's March 2026 roadshow

InfoTrack is running a 26-location AML/CTF compliance roadshow across the East Coast (NSW, QLD and VIC) in March 2026, jointly with LEAP (a sister company under ATI Group). These are free, CPD-accredited (2.5 points), hands-on workshops covering AML obligations for legal professionals.

What to keep in mind: The roadshow is educational and valuable. The compliance centre they demonstrate includes screening, CDD, guided workflows and AUSTRAC reporting tools. You should also ensure you have documented program policies, risk assessments and a governance framework — confirm with InfoTrack whether their Compliance Centre covers these or whether you need to source them separately.

Free programs are everywhere. Ours comes with a safety net.

AUSTRAC has released free starter kits. Some platforms offer free programs, others charge thousands. We offer ours free. The difference is what happens after you download.

Plug & Play gets you set up in minutes. But we also make room for your lawyer to check everything before you go live. Not as extra work. As an insurance policy. A ready-made brief, a requirements mapping table and optional portal access. They check you understand what you're signing up for and confirm it fits your business.

You can skip the safety net if you want. But whichever platform you use, the program you adopt is legally binding. That's not a HeadStart rule. That's how the AML/CTF Act works. We just make it easy to get a second pair of eyes before you commit.

Starting from our program instead of a blank page saves significant time. You could be set up within a day.

The difference: Other platforms give you a program and leave you to it. We give you a program and make room for your lawyer to check you're across everything before you go live.

Do you need one or both?

Many firms will use both. They solve different problems:

    • HeadStart Docs = your AML/CTF program documentation, governance, risk assessment, policies, portal, monitoring and reporting
    • InfoTrack = CDD searches and screening integrated into your PMS

If you already use InfoTrack for property searches in LEAP or Smokeball, adding their AML screening may be convenient for day-to-day operational checks. Check with InfoTrack what program documentation their Compliance Centre includes, and whether you need to supplement it with separate policy, risk assessment and governance documentation.
